Structure of the Day Cancelled

   I have officially decided that there is no use to continue the series Structure of the Day.  Besides, the series hasn't been posted in almost a month, and the spin-off of Structure of the Day, Today's ArchiPic, has pretty much taken over its predecessor.  Just like what happened with HOUSES 101 and Illustrious Interiors, I feel like the series is a copy of Today's ArchiPic.  So in other words the series has been cancelled.

Structure of the Day #12

     Today's structure of the day is one of my favorites.  It is a classic example of good old American ingenuity!  The Gateway Arch or as it is commonly known as the Gateway to the West, is the center of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri.  The Gateway Arch is the tallest accessible building in Missouri.  It is the tallest man-made monument in the United States, standing at 630 feet or 192 meters.  Construction was completed October 28, 1965.  Is this monument cool or what?  You can never have to much creativity when it comes to architecture!

Structure of the Day #11

   It's about time I did some Las Vegas buildings, and I think this one will be one of my favorites!  The Luxor Las Vegas is a hotel and casino in Las Vegas, United States, and it was built in 1993.  It is shaped like a pyramid and has 33 floors.  The 120,000 square feet casino floor has 2,000 slot machines and 87 table games.  The Luxor costed $375 million U.S. dollars to build and standing at 365 feet high.

    This building is really cool.  The pyramid shape and the Luxor light makes it one of the most unique structures I've ever seen.  Las Vegas has some really amazing structures including the MGM Grand. I'll see you next time.

Structure of the Day #10 (Future)

     I really didn't think that I would see the day when a building taller than the Burj Khalifa, which is 2,717 feet tall, would be made.  So it turns out that Dubai just likes to break world records!  The reason why is because they are one of the fastest growing cities in the world, and with all that money coming in from tourism, it can build as much as it wants.  Just don't get bankrupt Dubai!

    
Drum roll please.  I present to you, 2016's tallest building in the world, the Burj Mubarak al Kabir in Dubai, United Arab Emirates!  (I'm sorry, I just get real excited when I see the next tallest building in the world!)

Here is a graph comparing the Burj Mubarak al Kabir to other giant skyscrapers.

    The building is scheduled to be completed in 2016.  It will be 3,284 feet tall or 1,001 meters.  Surpassing the Burj Khalifa by about 500 feet.  The skyscraper is projected to cost $7.37 BILLION U.S. dollars!  Now that's a 3,284 feet hole in your pocket!  It will be able to house 700,000 people and create 450,000 new jobs for Dubai.  In 2016, I dare you to get a plane ticket to Dubai and see this...MONSTER for yourself.  Oh yeah, and send me picture while your at it.  (JUST KIDDING)  I would love to go to Dubai, but I don't have nearly enough money to go.  Most of you probably don't either!  Well, until then, see you next time!  Hmm...Mubarak, why did they name it that anyway?  Sorry, I almost forgot, "Enjoy the ARCHITECTURE!"

Structure of the Day #9-Space Needle

     The Space Needle in Seattle, Washington, is 605 feet high or 184 meters.  It was built in the 1962 World's Fair.  Elevators take 43 seconds to get to the top.  It can take up to a magnitude 9.1 earthquake, winds up to 200 mph, and a category 5 hurricane!  The needle weighs 9,550 tons!

    Similar to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle has had suicides.  It has had only 3 suicides total, but they're still suicides.  It's not nearly the total count of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Which is the most popular place to commit suicide in the world.  The Space Needle is probably one of the greatest needles in the world! (No pun intended)

Structure of the Day #8-Golden Gate Bridge

    Okay, the Golden Gate Bridge is...amazing!  The Golden Gate Bridge is a bridge that goes directly over the Golden Gate, the opening between San Francisco and the Pacific.  The bridge is listed as one of the wonders of the modern world and was finished in April 1937.  It costed about $33.7 million dollars. 

     Now listen to this.  Did you know that the Golden Gate Bridge is the most popular place to commit SUICIDE in the whole world?  Yeah, I sure didn't!  Since the bridge is about 245 feet above sea level, jumpers hit the water at 76 miles per hour.  By 2005, the bridge was averaging one every two weeks!  Now that's a knockout for the San Francisco police...literally!

Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas

       Wow!  This is a BIG stadium and BIG is an understatement compared to this monster!  The newly built Cowboys Stadium was finished on May 7, 2009.  It's the BIGGEST domed stadium and the BIGGEST high-definition video screen in the world.  The video screen goes from the 20 yard line to the other 20 yard line.  That's 60 yards wide!  The stadium can hold 80,000 seated people making it the fourth largest in the NFL for seating capacity.  The Cowboys Stadium costed $1.15 billion dollars to construct!     

   

Structure of the Day #6-Taipei 101

    This building is just cool.  The Taipei 101 in Taiwan, China, has 101 floors and in 2004 was rated highest building in the world until its predecessor the Burj Khalifa in Dubai came in the picture in 2010.  The Burj Khalifa now stands 2,717 feet tall.  The Taipei 101, on the other hand, is 1,671 feet tall or 509.2 meters. 

      

    

       It is designed to withstand strong typhoons and earthquake tremors which is common in the Asia-Pacific.  The building symbolises the four point direction of the compass.  It also features an observatory on the 89th floor and an outdoor observatory on the 91st floor.  The Taipei 101 is the world's second tallest building and its structure and symbolism continue to fascinate the tourists and residents in Taiwan every day!  And in my book, it's rated pretty high.  It's distinct shape makes it one of my favorite structures!

Structure of the Day #5-Empire State Building

    The Empire State Building in New York City, New York, United States, was built in 1931.  With 102 floors the Empire State Building stands 1,250 feet tall or 381 meters.  After the September 11th attacks which totally destroyed the World Trade Center towers, it became New York City's tallest building.  It approximately weighs 340,000 tons and costed $40,948,900 to complete.

 

      The Empire State Building is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.  This building is and always will be one of America's greatest structures!

Palm Islands - Structure of the Day #4 (Dubai)

     The Palm Islands (Atlantis) are a group of artificial islands in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  The archipelagos will have major commercial and residential infrastructures constructed on it.  Each settlement will be shaped as part of a palm tree and will add 520 kilometers of beaches for Dubai. 

    Thoughout the three islands there will be 100 luxury hotels, beach side villas, apartments, marinas, water parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and even some health spas!  Altogether, the project it will consist of 1,100,000,000 cubed meters of rock and sand.  Atlantis, The Palm Resort, officialy opened in 2008. 

Dubai Mall - Structure of the Day #3 (Dubai)

    The Dubai Mall is the world's largest shopping mall in area.  It has four floors, includes 1,200 shops, and has 14,000+ parking spots.  The mall hosted more than 37 million people in the first year of operation and it brings in about 750,000 visitors every week.  It opened on November 4, 2008.  The mall is over 12 million square feet with each internal floor area of 5.9 million square feet.  It also has an aquarium and a discovery center.  The Dubai Aquarium holds more than 33,000 marine animals.  The tank is the largest suspended aquarium in the world and it holds over 10 million liters of water.  It also holds a 76,000 square foot indoor theme park called the SEGA Republic.  The guests can enjoy over 150 attractions.  This Dubai Mall is the coolest mall I have ever seen.

Burj Al Arab - Structure of the Day #2 (Dubai)

     The Burj Al Arab is the fourth tallest hotel in the world at 1,053 feet or 321 meters high.  It began construction in 1994 and it stands on an artificial island.  The building used 92,000 cubic yards of concrete and 9,000 tons of steel.  The architect, Tom Wright, said that the client wanted a building that would be the Dubai icon, like the Empire State building in New York City.  It holds 28 double-story floors with 202 bedroom suites.  The hotel is rated a five-star deluxe.  Although it is frequently called "the world's only seven-star hotel."  The iconic shape of it mimics the sail on a ship.  The largest suite occupies 8,400 square feet.  The whole project was finished in 1999.  This is a really cool hotel.

Burj Khalifa - Structure of the Day #1 (Dubai)

    Modern architecture is my favorite kind of style.  To me it looks some what futuristic, and today's building will literally stop you in your tracks.  This building is the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Middle East.  The structure stands 2,717 feet or 828 meters.  It began construction on September 21, 2004 and it officialy opened on January 4, 2010.  Now this building is obviously modern and it's the most unique building I have ever seen!

    The total cost for the project was about $1.5 billion US dollars.  Now that's a hole in your pocket!  It can also hold about 35,000 people at one time.  For the construction, they had to use 431,600 cubic yards of concrete and about 22 million man-hours.  The building's triple lobed-shape was inspired by the Hymenocallis flower.  This is an awesome piece of architecture!
