The following information is from Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects.
Schmidt Hammer Lassen has designed a new building for Europe. This is the Halifax Central Library in downtown Halifax. It is projected to cost 32.8 million euros. In 2010, it won 1st prize in a restricted international competition. The library will be constructed around 2011-2014 with tons of windows to let in light and illuminate the building.
The beautiful library will have a green roof top to provide a unique view to Halifax Harbor, Citadel Hill, and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The new library will be an icon for the city of Halifax. It is one of the most important projects for Schmidt Hammer Lassen. It will represent the diverse communities, talents, and creativity of Halifax's residents throughout the world. It is a very significant project, and its legacy will last in Halifax for a long time if not forever.
