To answer this question, take a look at Vitruvius, the 'father' of architecture. There is more responsibility of an architect than just "feels good." Do some Research on "firmitas, utilitas, venustas" Most of the time, vertical and straight lines means less money, and sometimes that's all the owner can afford.
