Today's ArchiPic is the unusual but intricate-looking Drum Bridge in the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, California. Part of Golden Gate Park, the bridge is a famous tourist attraction. Although not much people know about it, once you get into San Francisco, I think you will eventually learn about it. What it lacks in size, it makes up in design. It's curves and steep incline are very unusual. It is a 19th century bridge that was made in Japan and was shipped to California in 1894. Also, Architectural Digest said that it serves more of an aesthetic purpose than a practical one because of the high arch and secondly, the visitors have to climb the ladder-like footholds.
"We must learn to understand humanity better so that we can create an environment that is more beneficial to people, more rewarding, more pleasant to experience." - John Portman Jr.
