Today's ArchiPic #85

Stratosphere Hotel and Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada, courtesy Wikimedia Commons.

Today's ArchiPic is the Stratosphere Hotel and Tower in Las Vegas.  The tower is the tallest observation tower in the United States and the tallest structure in Las Vegas.  It stands at 1,149 feet (350.2 m), and is accompanied by an attractions throughout the tower.  The first one is the tallest thrill ride in the world and it's called Big Shot.  It stands at 1,089 feet.  Opened in 2005, the Insanity is the world's second tallest thrill ride.  It dangles the riders over the edge and spins them around at over 40 miles per hour.  The third and fourth are SkyJump Las Vegas and X-Scream.  SkyJump Las Vegas is a controlled descent bungee-jump ride.  This piece of architecture is unique in one way: it is one of the few that people use to scare the living heck out of themselves!
